Mega rebUKe

From the "Duh of the Day" category, 84% of respondents to the ISPreview survey in the UK think 2Mbps universal service is not enough. Frankly, I'm surprised it's only 84%, and I'm really astonished that only 9.5% view upload as a key factor.

Perhaps upload speed will become more of a concern for ppl when they try to back up their digital life offsite. Mine has been running for the last 36 hours with no end in site...

It is somewhat amusing that for the usage most people make of the web a few Mbit/s of downstream is enough to ensure very little waiting, then they try to upload to Facebook, Youtube or whatever and find themselves watching a progress bar for a while.

I think people simply don't understand that this is upload, and it's a heck of a lot lower than the '8 Meg' or whatever that they might have on the download.

If people were more aware of the applications for upstream bandwidth and the time it costs them due to the excessive asymmetry of many products they may be more interested.
